Junkernwiese

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Junkernwiese is a geographical object in Seelze in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony . The undeveloped part of the area forms today's Bürgerpark, a leisure area.

history

The area in the northeast of the core town of Seelze lies inside a bend in the river Leine and belonged to the Seelzer Gutshof, which was dissolved in 1935 . The court, which has existed since the Middle Ages, was last owned by the von Hugo family , who did not live there. Seelze had been in Prussia since 1866 , where Junker was a common name for large landowners.

Because of the lower location in contrast to the center of Seelze, only a few buildings were erected in the floodplain of the Junkernwiese and the areas were mostly used as meadows . It was not until the autumn of 1977 that permission was granted to fill a dike made of around 750,000 cubic meters of material, which was mainly removed from the foreland on the banks of the Leine. This averted the danger of flooding , which was common up until the completion of the Salzderhelden flood retention basin.

buildings

There are several school buildings on the Junkernwiese.

Shooting range

In 1913/14 a local rifle club set up a shooting range in the south of the Junkernwiese . In the years 1935 to 1937 the facility was enlarged by order of the mayor of Seelz and turned into a military sports facility .

Baths

Entrance to the Königliche Kristalltherme Seelze

In the 1960s, around 50,000 cubic meters of soil were poured into this area and an outdoor swimming pool was opened in 1967 . When the number of visitors declined in the 1980s, the swimmer's pool was filled in with rubble in 1989 and the remaining area was also closed a few years later. The paddling pool has been preserved as a beer garden pond.

In 1970/71 an indoor pool was built next to the outdoor pool in place of the old shooting range , which had to close again in 2005 due to the threat of collapse. It was privatized and converted into the Königliche Kristalltherme adventure pool by 2008 .
