Juozas Antanavičius

Juozas Antanavičius (born July 25, 1940 in Tverai ) is a Lithuanian musicologist and music teacher, professor at the Lithuanian Music and Theater Academy .

Life

Antanavičius studied at the Luokė , Tverai, Tryškiai elementary schools in the Telšiai district and at the Jonas Jablonskis Middle School in Kaunas . From 1952 to 1958 he attended Kaunas Music School . From 1958 to 1963 he studied music theory at the Lietuvos konservatorija with Klemensas Griauzdė . From 1963 to 1964 he was the deputy director of the Balys Dvarionas Music School and taught music theory at the Čiurlionis Art School in Vilnius .

From 1964 to 1965 Antanavičius taught at the Vilniaus pedagoginis institutas and from 1968 to 1969 at the Leningrad Conservatory . He also worked as a music editor at Lietuvos radijas . In 1969 he graduated from the postgraduate at the Conservatory of Leningrad and in 1970 graduated as a candidate in art history . From 1969 he taught at the Lietuvos konservatorija . In 1988 he became a professor. From 1977 to 1979 he taught music theory and history at the Havana Art Institute in Cuba . From 1982 he was Vice-Rector , Rector from 1994 to 2005 and Vice- Rector from 2005 to 2011 of the LMTA .

From December 7 to 9, 2004, Antanavičius was Lithuania's Minister of Education in the Brazauskas II cabinet . He resigned after allegations about cooperation with the KGB .

Antanavičius was a member of the Komsomol , the CPSU , the LSDP .
