Yuri Borissowitsch Tschesnokow ( Russian Юрий Борисович Чесноков ; born January 22, 1933 in Moscow , † May 30, 2010 in Moscow) was a Soviet volleyball player , coach and official.
Chesnokov won gold with the Soviet national team at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo . He was also twice world champion ( 1960 and 1962 ) and achieved bronze at the European championship in 1963 .
With CSKA Moscow , Tschesnokow won the Soviet championship nine times between 1953 and 1966 and the European Cup twice .
After his playing days, Tschesnokow had numerous successes as coach of CSKA Moscow and the Soviet national team. Later he was vice president of the Soviet and Russian volleyball federations and the world federation FIVB .
In 2000, Yuri Tschesnokow was one of the first non-US Americans to be inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame .
