Yuri Mikhailovich Alexandrov

Yuri Mikhailovich Alexandrov ( Russian Юрий Михайлович Александров * August 19 . Jul / 1. September  1914 greg. In Tashkent ; † the thirtieth September 2001 ) was a Russian composer and journalist.

Life

Yuri Alexandrow studied at the Moscow Conservatory , where he was among other things a student of Vissarion Schebalin .

His best-known work is a ballet with the original Russian title Белеет парус одинокий ( A lonely sail flashes ) based on the novel of the same name by Valentin Katajew . It premiered at the Moscow Art Theater founded by Konstantin Stanislavski and Vladimir Nemirowitsch-Danchenko .

Alexandrov worked for many years as music director, composer and editor-in-chief of the Musika publishing house. He was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the USSR .

His extensive work, which shows a high level of craftsmanship, includes symphonies and other symphonic music, choral and ballet music, songs, piano and chamber music. In terms of style and form, it moves on the basis of an evolutionary continuation of classic-romantic traditions. His chamber music works z. B. are based on traditional models (three or four movements, sonata movement form in the corner movements).

Although his music was very much appreciated in the GDR and published by VEB Breitkopf & Härtel , Leipzig , Yuri Alexandrow is virtually unknown in Germany after reunification.
