Yuriy Drohobych (russin. Юрій Дрогобич ; actually Jurij Kotermak - russin. Юрій Котермак ; in Latin Georgius Drohobicz de Russia * 1450 in Drohobych , † 4. August 1494 in Krakow ) was a rotruthenischer philosopher , astronomer , astrologer and the first Ruthenian Doctor of medicine . He is also considered the East Slavic author of the first printed Cyrillic book.

Life

Jurij Kotermak grew up in Drohobytsch and graduated from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow until 1473 . He earned his university degree (1476) and doctorate (1482) in medicine at the University of Bologna , where he also worked as rector from 1481 to 1482 and taught astronomy and medicine.

Back in Krakow, he taught as a professor of medicine at the city since 1487 University .

In February 1483 his work Judicium prenosticon Magistri Georgii Drogobicz de Russia was published in Rome , which is considered to be the first known printed book by a Ukrainian. In addition to some astrological prognoses, he dealt with topics from geography, astronomy and meteorology.
