Jurij Romanovyč Isdryk ( Ukrainian Юрій Романович Іздрик / scientific transliteration Jurij Romanovyč Izdryk ; born August 16, 1962 in Kalush , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian writer, cultural scientist and editor of the legendary literary magazine Tschetwer (in German Thursday ).

Life

Yuri Isdryk was born in the Ukrainian city of Kalush in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast . As a child he loved literature and tried his hand at poetics . At the age of 14 he wrote his first poem and in music school he learned to play the piano and cello. Isdryk later studied engineering at the National Polytechnic University in Lviv and took part in cultural life there. He played in a rock band and took part in various theatrical performances. After graduating from university in 1984, he worked as an engineer in Ivano-Frankivsk and between 1986 and 1990 at an institute in Kalush. He lives here to this day.

In the late 1980s, the writer took an active part in artistic life: he took part in numerous official and unofficial art events and exhibitions. A meeting between Isdryk and Jurij Andruchowytsch in 1990 resulted in a lasting friendship and years of collaboration between the two writers. Isdryk belongs to the so-called "Stanislau phenomenon" and to Ukrainian postmodernism.

For a long time Jurij Isdryk could not choose between music, art and literature. Currently (2016) he is concentrating on music, where he continues to work in an editorial office, paints pictures and presents them at international and national exhibitions, and publishes books with poems that are characterized by a sophisticated game of metaphors. Not only in his work as a graphic designer does he maintain intensive contact with the authors of the next generation, whom he accompanies on their way through to the prefaces of their novels.

Like the father, the son Jurij Isdryk is active in the field of music as well as in the media (at Hromadske Radio).
