The Juscelino-Kubitschek Bridge , also known as President JK Bridge or JK Bridge (Portuguese: Ponte JK ), is a bridge over Lake Paranoá in the center of the Brazilian capital, Brasília . It connects the southern part of Lago Sul , São Sebastião and Paranoá with the Plano Piloto and the central Eixo Monumental .

The bridge is named after the former Brazilian President Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira , who built Brasília as the capital in the 1950s. In December 1998, the design by the architect Alexandre Chan won a national competition . The technical execution was carried out by Mário Vila Verde . The bridge received the 2003 award for the best steel structure from ABCEM, the Brazilian Association of Steel Constructors. The architect Chan received the Gustav Lindenthal Medal from the International Bridge Conference for the building in the same year . The three asymmetrical steel arches, offset from one another, rise 61 meters above the lake at their apex. The roadway is suspended from them by means of suspension cables.

The bridge crosses a three-lane expressway in both directions and has a pedestrian and bicycle lane at the edge. It has field widths of 300 meters, 300 meters and 250 meters.
