Justin Pierre Marie Macquart (* 1778 in Hazebrouck ; † November 25, 1855 in Lestrem ) was a French entomologist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Macquart ".

Life

Justin Pierre Marie Macquart was born in Hazebrouck, 45 kilometers west of Lille . During the French Revolution in 1796 he went to the Rhine Army under the command of General Armand Samuel de Marescot (1758-1832), where he was secretary and draftsman. With the Rhine Army he reached Switzerland . Two years later, he left the army and went back to Lille. Here he devoted himself to the study of insects and was one of the founders of the Société d'Amateurs des Sciences et Arts of Lille. On the 27th Messidor of the year 11 according to the French Revolutionary Calendar (1802) Macquart was elected a member of the Société de Sciences de l'Agriculture et des Arts of Lille.

At a council of Pierre André Latreille way he specialized in the order of Diptera (Diptera). In 1826 the first volume of his work Insectes Diptères du Nord de la France appeared, followed by numerous other publications on the two-winged species. In 1839 Macquart visited Johann Wilhelm Meigen in Stolberg and acquired his notes and drawings for the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris .

At the suggestion of ornithologist Charles Bonaparte , he was elected a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences . In 1851 he received the award of a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur .
