Justino Maria Aparício Guterres is a former East Timorese diplomat.

Life

Guterres has a Masters in Anthropology from Melbourne University . From 2001 to 2006 he taught the subject “Introduction to Anthropology and Sociology” at the full seminar Peter and Paul in Dili and “Timorese Culture” at the Instituto Católico de Professores Primários in Baucau . On May 21, 2007, Guterres was the first East Timorese ambassador to the Holy See to present his accreditation. Guterres was 61 years old at the time. On May 19, 2010 Guterres received from Pope Benedict XVI. the Grand Cross of the Order of Pius . At the end of the year Guterres finished his service in Rome . He was succeeded by Armindo Pedro Simões as Managing Ambassador.

On October 12, 2011, Guterres was sentenced to 10 years in prison for embezzling state funds. Prosecutor José da Costa Ximenes accused Guterres of forgery and administrative errors.
