Justus Müller Hofstede

Justus Müller Hofstede (born May 9, 1929 in Berlin ; † April 27, 2015 in Bonn ) was a German art historian .

Live and act

Justus Müller Hofstede was the son of the art historian Cornelius Müller Hofstede (1898–1974), who was director of the Berlin Gemäldegalerie from 1957 to 1964 .

Justus Müller Hofstede received his doctorate from the University of Freiburg in 1959 . In 1967 he obtained his habilitation at the University of Bonn on the subject of " Rubens in Italy 1600–1608". He was a professor at the Art History Institute of the University of Bonn and has made expert reports for paintings. From 1996 to 1998 he was a professor at the Graduate School The Renaissance in Italy and its European Reception .

Müller Hofstede was chairman of the Bonner Heimat- und Geschichtsverein from 1977 to 2004 and in this function co-founder of the Bonn City Museum .

In 1985 he received the Rhineland Thaler , in 1990 the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon and in 1995 the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic .
