Justus Ulrich

Justus Ulrich (born September 10, 1835 in Cassel , † February 28, 1900 in Pfungstadt ) was a German brewer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Ulrich attended secondary school in Cassel and from 1853 onwards he heard lectures from Kaiser in Munich about brewing and then traveled to Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Holland and Belgium for further business training. In 1855 he took up a job as a brewery assistant in the J. Hildebrand company in Pfungstadt , but soon advanced to become a master brewer. After further stays abroad he was again employed in Pfungstadt from 1857 and became engaged to the daughter of the owner Käthchen Hildebrand. From 1864 he was a partner and from 1874 with Wilhelm Hildebrand the sole owner of the brewery. He was particularly interested in innovations in refrigeration technology and ordered an ammonia refrigeration machine from Carl Linde . He also built his own paper factory in the vicinity of the brewery and founded Germany's first goat breeding association. Ulrich was also a founding member of the German Brewers Association .

From 1868 he was a councilor and city councilor in Pfungstadt for many years, and from 1874 a member of the committee of the Hessian trade association. In 1872 he was awarded the war memorial for non-combatants and in 1876 with the Knight's Cross 2nd Class of the Grand Ducal Hessian Order of Ludwig for services to industry.

From 1884 to 1890 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Hesse 4 Darmstadt , Groß-Gerau and the National Liberal Party .
