Lore

The imperial official and poet Prudentius (* 348; † after 405) mentioned the two martyrs in his work; in the 13th century they also appear in the Legenda aurea of Jacobus de Voragine . Both are said to have been brothers and in 304, d. H. At the time of the Diocletian persecution of Christians , Datianus , the governor of the province, asked to renounce their faith. He even offered them presents, but both refused. Thereupon they are said to have been scourged and beheaded at the gates of their hometown Complutum (today Alcalá de Henares ) - according to another tradition, Tielmes was their place of birth. Justus was twelve (according to other sources nine) years old when he died; his brother pastor was two or three years younger.

After her death, her bones and the stone on which she had been beheaded were brought to the city, where they were immediately admired by the people. In the middle of the 8th century a pious and later canonized hermit named Urbicius transferred the bones of the two saints to his native Bordeaux and from there to the mountains of Aragón in Huesca to protect them from the Islamic invaders ; after his death they appear in Narbonne , where the cathedral bears the name of the two saints. In 1568 a part of the remains of Alcalá de Henares has been brought back to where the local, in the 16th century built Cathedral also under their patronage is.
