Juventutem

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Juventutem is an international association of young people who stand by the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church and advocate older liturgical forms such as the extraordinary form of the Roman rite . The association was active in the preparation of the World Youth Day 2005 in Cologne and the World Youth Day 2008 .

The name is derived from the step prayer of the Tridentine Mass and indicates the "youth of holiness", which can also include older people. Juventutem finds support from Catholic organizations such as the Papal Commission Ecclesia Dei , the Society of St. Peter , the Brotherhood of St. Vincent Ferrer , the Institute of St. Philip Neri and other communities and lay organizations.

The group is supported by various cardinals and bishops of the Catholic Church, including Francis Cardinal Arinze , Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments and, since April 2005, one of the nine Cardinal Bishops . Other supporters include Cardinal Francis Eugene George , the Archbishop of Chicago and Vice President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the United States , FGeorge Cardinal Pell , the Archbishop of Sydney , Archbishop Wolfgang Haas, and the Apostolic Administrator of Personnel Administration St. John Maria Vianney in the Brazilian Diocese of Campos , Bishop Fernando Areas Rifan . In a letter dated January 17, 2008, Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos , president of the Ecclesia Dei papal commission, described the members of Juventutem as "young Catholics loyal to the ecclesiastical hierarchy who are convinced of the 'forma extraordinaria' of the Roman rite".
