Kathe Rieck
Käthe Rieck (born February 17, 1902 in Rostock ; † August 23, 2004 ) was a German museum director and art historian.
Life
At the age of twelve, Käthe Rieck was already interested in the exhibits in the Provincial Museum for New Western Pomerania and Rügen, which at that time was still housed in the Stralsund town hall . She had moved from Rostock to Stralsund with her parents in 1914 . In 1921 she began working as an assistant to Fritz Adler, who had been director of the museum since 1919 . After the museum's holdings were moved to the former Katharinenkloster in 1924, she was entrusted with the inventory and cataloging of exhibits and took care of the restoration of individual exhibits in the museum. She organized various exhibitions.
During the Second World War in 1942, she was involved in relocating exhibits to rural locations. After the air raids on Lübeck and Rostock, there were also fears of attacks on Stralsund. Until August 1944, she carried out regular checks on the items that were removed from the warehouse; In this month Rieck was appointed to the "Eastern Deployment" together with the other female helpers of the museum.
After the Second World War she was involved in returning the art treasures to the museum. So she identified the Hiddenseer gold jewelry and made sure that the Stralsund Stellwagen organ was brought back to the Marienkirche .
From 1950 to 1962 Käthe Rieck was the director of the cultural history museum. The museum was expanded under her leadership.
She was one of the initiators of the " Greifswald-Stralsund Yearbook " and was involved in the preservation of monuments in her hometown.
Käthe Rieck was made an honorary citizen of Stralsund on December 14, 1996 by the Hanseatic city of Stralsund .
