Käthe van Beeker (born April 1, 1863 near Königsberg ; † July 21, 1917 in Meran -Obermais) was a German writer who was particularly successful as a young adult author .

Life

Käthe van Beeker was born on a country estate near Königsberg in Prussia . She received her upbringing in Königsberg since she was three and later lived unmarried in Wiesbaden , where she became literary from 1897.

She wrote mainly books for girls and was one of the most successful authors of fried fish literature of her time , alongside Brigitte Augusti , Bertha Clément and Henny Koch . Among other things, she wrote travel stories for young girls and girls 'colonial novels , which for the first time dealt with emigration and life abroad in the field of girls' literature. Instead of, for example, the young heroine's typical boarding-house stay in the Backfisch literature, the focus is on the heroine's development in a foreign country. Hedda, the heroine from Hedda's apprenticeship in Southwest , is sent from her impoverished family to her brother in Southwest Africa, where she can develop independently from her mother - her father has already died.

Some of Käthe van Beeker's novels achieved large print runs and were translated into Dutch and Swedish, among other things.
