Brigitte Augusti ( pseudonym ; actually Auguste Plehn, née Bresler, born February 1, 1839 in Danzig ; † April 14, 1930 there ) was a German author of girls' literature .

Life

Auguste Bresler was born as the daughter of the consistorial councilor and archdeacon of the Danzig Marienkirche Karl Heinrich Bresler (1797-1860). She was raised at home. In 1860 she married Carl Plehn (1835–1882), the manor owner of Borkau near Stargard . After the estate was sold in 1880, she moved back to Gdansk with her husband. Carl Plehn died two years later. Widowed, she moved to her sister, who was also widowed, in Summin, in 1886 with her in Lippy and since 1891 in Sopot . Since 1897 she has lived in the Danzig Heilig-Leichnam-Stift, and has been blind for the last 12 years.

After the death of her husband, she began to write for young women under the pseudonym "Brigitte Augusti". The publishing house Ferdinand Hirt & Sohn in Leipzig commissioned a series of books An deutschem Herd from her, based on the example of the historical novels by Gustav Freytag , aimed at girls. At the same time, Hirt & Sohn published the series Das Ahnenschloß by Oskar Höcker (4 volumes, 1879–1881) for boys. In total, she created about 25 works of girls' literature.

Her daughter Elisabeth Gnade (1863–1938) also worked as a writer.
