The Kölner Hof is a hotel in Königswinter , a town in the Rhein-Sieg district of North Rhine-Westphalia that dates back to the mid-19th century. It stands as a monument under monument protection .

location

The Kölner Hof is located on Rheinallee (house number 5), the city's promenade along the Rhine , south of the former Hotel Immenhof and north of the old ferry house .

history

The Kölner Hof was built in 1835 as one of the first hotels on the banks of the Rhine in Königswinter. It got its current appearance in 1912 and 1913, when the two-storey plastered building was rebuilt, increased by one storey and, at the request of the state conservator, equipped with a mansard roof . A new staircase was created inside . In 1927/30 a “Rheinhalle” was added as a glazed viewing veranda , which was removed again towards the end of the 1980s and replaced by a terrace and a staircase. After Bonn was designated as the seat of government in 1949, the Cologne court was one of the hotels that were confiscated and prepared to accommodate the staff of the Allied High Commission .

The building was entered in the monuments list of the city of Königswinter on May 31, 1985. After the hotel was closed between 1983 and 1986, it was extensively rebuilt and expanded for conversion to condominiums , so that nothing of the internal structure of the hotel building was preserved.

architecture

The building is three to four storeys high and has six axes on the Rhine side , with the raised central section accommodating four axes. The front side is characterized by balconies and high rectangular windows with shutters .
