Kömmerling refers to two different companies at the same location in Pirmasens . The nucleus was the Kömmerling OHG, founded in 1897 , which was later divided into Kömmerling Chemische Fabrik GmbH and Gebrüder Kömmerling GmbH (today: as profine GmbH Kömmerling Kunststoffe part of profine GmbH )

Kömmerling Chemische Fabrik GmbH has belonged to ADCO Global Inc. since 2000 and is a manufacturer of adhesives and sealants .

history

In 1897 Karl Kömmerling founded the trading company Kömmerling OHG. The company supplied the then steadily growing shoe industry with adhesives (such as wheat glue, lasting glue and celluloid glue). Just a few years later, Kömmerling began developing and manufacturing adhesives independently. In 1949, the company manufactured the world's first contact adhesive based on synthetic rubber. In 1952, Kunststoffwerke Gebrüder Kömmerling GmbH was founded. Plastics became more and more important - not only in the shoe sector.

After the Second World War , Kömmerling began to export its adhesives and plastics and to set up foreign locations. In 1954, plants were built in France and Brazil . In the same year, Kömmerling started the establishment of the “Technical Adhesives” division and the development of the “Körapox” product family. The first extruded plastic parts were produced three years later . In 1967 the production of plastic window profiles began. In 1969, Kömmerling was the first company to introduce a primerless sealant system based on polysulphide for the insulating glass edge seal.

From the 1980s onwards, further plants were built: 1986 in France, 1989 in Italy , 1992 in Spain , 1995 in the People's Republic of China and finally in 1996 in the USA . In 1995, Kömmerling Chemische Fabrik GmbH was one of the first manufacturers of adhesive and sealant systems to be certified according to the internationally recognized quality management standard ISO 9001 .

At the end of 1999, the entire company filed for bankruptcy. Part of the company, Kömmerling Chemische Fabrik GmbH, became part of ADCO Global Inc. ( Raleigh (North Carolina) ) in 2000 ; at the same time, the European headquarters of ADCO Global was relocated to the Pirmasens location. ADCO now had seven locations in America, Europe and Asia with more than 700 employees worldwide. The other part - the Gebrüder Kömmerling GmbH - was integrated into HT Troplast AG (from 2003 Profine ).

In 2003, Kömmerling Chemische Fabrik GmbH took over the production area for insulating glass sealants from Chemetall in Langelsheim and has since had two production sites in Germany.

In June 2013, the parent company ADCO Global announced that the owner of ADCO - the Aurora Capital Group - had sold ADCO and thus also Kömmerling to the investment company Arsenal Capital Partners ( New York ). On June 19, 2015, the investment company American Securities ( New York City ) acquired ADCO Global Inc. from Arsenal Capital Partners.

Since the end of October 2017, Kömmerling Chemische Fabrik GmbH has been part of the US adhesives group HB Fuller.
