The Royal Riding Hall in Hanover is a former riding hall that was built in 1876 as part of the Hanover Military Riding Institute . Since the complete renovation in 2000, it has been the headquarters of companies and an event center, where the talk show “ Die Tietjen and Dibaba ” was recorded between 2006 and 2008 .

history

The riding hall was part of the Prussian military riding school in Vahrenwald, which was built in 1876 on the former Vahrenwalder Heide . Here officers and men of the cavalry did their service. The hall was later part of the Hanover Cavalry School , which was the center of military riding and riding instructor training in Germany. In 1937 the facility was relocated to Potsdam - Krampnitz as an army riding school . The riding arena is one of a total of seven former riding arenas on the barracks grounds , the buildings of which were heavily destroyed in the air raids on Hanover during the Second World War . Since many barracks were demolished after the war, the riding arena is one of the few remaining military buildings. The badly dilapidated hall was preserved at the end of the 1990s with the help of a private initiative.

Redevelopment

Since the renovation in 2000, the building has been a modern service building. Before that, the historic riding arena was hardly suitable for the office. In view of the old building fabric, it was necessary to weigh up the renovation options. Finally, in order to modernize the building, some “innards” and a wall worth preserving had to give way. Embossed elements made of steel and exposed concrete were added to the dominant brick architecture. The building envelope, which is empty on the inside, has been given new levels in some areas. Inside, raw brick walls contrast with modern building materials. With this mixture, the riding hall in 2001 came as a landmark in the program of the day, the architecture of the Chamber of Architects of Lower Saxony .

Today the riding arena houses an advertising agency and an event business. It is also the seat of the “ Bürogolf -Club Hannover Königliche Reithalle von 1866”.
