Königsallee (Bochum)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Part of the Bochum Königsallee

The Königsallee in Bochum is an arterial road that leads south from the center of the city. Viktoriastraße is its extension into the city center; the southern end in the Stiepel district is a two-lane kinking right of way onto Kemnader Straße. In its entire course it has been expanded to four lanes, since it was laid out as a boulevard through Ehrenfeld at the beginning of the 20th century .

At the intersection with Oskar-Hoffmann-Strasse or Hattinger Strasse is the Schauspielhaus Bochum , directly behind it the former administration building of Ruhr-nitrogen AG - today's Bochum-Süd tax office. Further out of town are the Schiller School , the Graf Engelbert School and the Bomin House .

The Bochum Königsallee was honored in the song "Bochum" by Herbert Grönemeyer . There it is compared with the famous shopping street of the same name in the state capital Düsseldorf :

"You are not a cosmopolitan city !
There
are no fashion shows on your Königsallee !
Here, where the heart still counts,
not big money!
Who lives in Düsseldorf?"
