location

The vineyard is located west of the former Cistercian monastery Kloster Pforte in the monument area Kloster Pforte between the small Saale and the federal road 87 . It is part of the state winery Kloster Pforta .

history

The Köppelberg is a hilltop on which, following a decision by the Naumburg Bishop and later Archbishop of Magdeburg Wichmann von Seeburg, an uprising began in 1154. The name of the mountain changed from Windlücke in 1551, to Kübelberg in 1765 and from 1867 to Köppelberg . There used to be houses and a winery on the vineyard ; there are only remnants of it. Around 1900 the cultivation of wine was stopped, but in 1975 an uprising started again. This makes the vineyard the oldest Cistercian vineyard in the Saale-Unstrut region . The vineyard has been a listed building since 2017.
