The Landesweingut Kloster Pforta is a state winery that belongs to the Saale-Unstrut region . With 50 hectares of vineyards, it is the largest winery in this region. The owner is the state of Saxony-Anhalt , the seat of the GmbH is in Bad Kösen .
history
The origin of the winery was formed by the Pforta monastery , which was founded by the Cistercians in 1137 in the Saale lowlands at the gates of Naumburg (Saale). Under the protégé of the Saxon ruling house and the creative power of the monks, a diverse cultural landscape emerged. In particular, viticulture , which ostensibly served the liturgy and catering, soon turned into an important commodity. Before the Reformation, the monastery owned 167 vineyards with a total of 260 hectares in the corridors of 62 places. An annual yield of 4,012 Naumburg buckets was harvested from these, which is 10.5 hl / ha by today's standards.
In the course of the Reformation, the monastery was dissolved by Duke Moritz von Sachsen and transferred to the Pforta State School . The ownership of vineyards changed in part to secular ownership and was cultivated there as a half-mountain. Half of the income went to the farming farmers, the other half to the Saxon ruling house. With the Congress of Vienna , the Kingdom of Saxony lost this property to Prussia. After the phylloxera disaster , it set up a research institute on individual areas under the direction of Carl Julius Bernhard Börner , which was significantly involved in the introduction of graft cultivation .
The winery survived the Second World War unscathed and was nationalized in 1952 as VEG Weinbau Naumburg. From 1963 the viticulture was intensified, so that finally 120 ha were cultivated. After the turn of the winery was a country estate taken over the state of Saxony-Anhalt and reduced the vineyard on 58 hectares. In 2008 the state winery Kloster Pforta was converted from a state enterprise into a GmbH.
