history

In 1536, the owner of the Kleindehsa manor, Hans von Gaussig, had a farm near a forest spring. Around this a clearing settlement was built, which was first mentioned in 1546 in the Löbauer Rügen book under the name "Ketschenborn". In 1547 it was named "Keytschendorff". The names "zu Kätsche" or "zur Ketscha" have been handed down from 1573. The Upper Sorbian name "Koča" came into being only recently and was derived from the Sorbian word "kóčka" for cat.

From 1890, Lusatian granodiorite was quarried in several quarries south of Kötzschau on the Kötzschauer Berg. The forest between Kötzschau and Kleindehsa was cleared after 1900.

As part of the community of Kleindehsa, Kötzschau was incorporated into Lawalde on March 1, 1994.
