Künga Trashi

Thegchen Chöje Künga Trashi ( T. kun dga 'bkra shis, theg chen chos rje ; * 1349 ; † 1425 ) was a clergyman of the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism . In the 11th year of the Yongle era (1413) he was given the title of Dharma King by Emperor Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty .

Künga Trashi came from the Duque region, which is dominated by the Sakya School . His grandfather was Künga Gyeltsen Pel Sangpo , the Imperial Teacher ( dishi ) of the Yuan Dynasty . His father fought and lost to Prince Changchub Gyeltshen (1302-1364) from the Phagmo Drupa family , the Sakya had to resettle in Dacang Zong County . In 1372 he was initiated as a bhiksu (monk). He preached in western and eastern Tibet.

On a trip to the Ming Emperor in Nanjing , he also toured Beijing and the Wutai Shan . He instructed Emperor Chengzu (Yongle) in the Abhiseka doctrine (Chin. Guanding 灌顶; see a. Acarya, Chin. Asheli 阿阇 梨) of esoteric Buddhism and in prayers and was given rich gifts by the Emperor. In 1414 he returned to the Sakya monastery. One of his successes was that the Sakya School got the Great Sakya Hall back from the Phagdru government .
