Kārlis Krēsliņš (born April 13, 1945 ) is a Latvian politician and former brigadier general .

Life

Military career

After graduating from high school, Kārlis Krēsliņš attended a military college in Riga from 1963 to 1966 and then served in the Air Force of the Soviet Union until 1992 (since 1977 as a lecturer at the Military Academy for Air Force Engineers "Prof. NJ Schukowski" ).

In 1992, he moved to the Latvian Armed Forces, which were undergoing reconstruction, and took on the post of deputy head of the country's military academy . From 1997 he was Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of training. From 2000 to 2004 Krēsliņš took over the post of Chief of Staff of the National Armed Forces. While doing this he was promoted to Brigadier General in September 2003. In 2004 he took over the management of the Latvian Military Academy. A year later, at the age of 60, he retired.

Activity in politics

After retiring from military service, Kārlis Krēsliņš became active in politics. In the parliamentary elections in Latvia in 2011 he was able to move into the Latvian Parliament ( Latvian Saeima ) for the National Alliance . In April 2014 he renounced his mandate, but ran again for the elections in autumn 2014 and has been a member again since then. He was a member of the 12th Saeima until its last meeting on November 1, 2018. In the parliamentary elections in Latvia in 2018 , his party suffered a loss of votes. Krēsliņš was one of those who could not defend their mandate.

Private

Kārlis Krēsliņš is married and has four children. His hobbies include traveling and sporting activities. He also volunteers in several clubs.
