The Kładka przez Motławę (also Kładka na Ołowiankę, translated pedestrian bridge over the Motława or to the Bleihof ) is a bascule bridge in Gdansk , Poland . It connects the Stare Miasto (old town) across the Motława with the island of Ołowianka (Bleihof) in the city center district . The pedestrian bridge is important , as the Baltic Philharmonic , parts of the Maritime Museum, hotels and the districts of Długie Ogrody (Langgarten) and Sienna Grobla (straw dyke) can be reached without much detour.
history
A first public discussion about the construction of the bridge took place in March 2004. In May 2012, the city of Gdansk announced an international competition, in which 68 proposals were received, 47 of which were evaluated. On November 9, 2012, the design by the engineering firm Ponting in Maribor, Slovenia, was awarded first place. Mosty Gdańsk design office became a subcontractor for further work. The construction company Intercor in Zawiercie, Silesia , won the tender for the construction .
Construction began on July 11, 2016. The steel bridge made in Zawiercie was delivered in six parts to Gdansk on February 22, 2017 and welded together on the east bank of the Motława. On May 8, 2017, a pontoon transported the 40-meter-long bridge to the construction site. Assembly, tests and technical acceptance took place in May.
On the evening of June 17, 2017, the bridge was officially opened to pedestrians.

The bridge stands on four pillars and is a total of 70.5 meters long and 6.8 to 10.6 meters wide. The span is 40.0 meters. The control and engine room with hydraulics is located on the island of Ołowianka. The movable structural part (the flap) is hinged on one side on the east bank and, after opening, reaches a height of 39.77 meters with an opening angle of 65 degrees. The opening and closing time is two minutes, in manual emergency mode it is 20 minutes.
Your two walkways are each 2.30 meters wide. Technically, the structure is designed as a box-girder , cantilever and luffing bridge .
After opening, the fairway is around 29 meters wide. When closed, the headroom is 2.1 meters and can be passed by the Gdańsk water tram. Aside from the main opening, pleasure craft with a clearance of 1.8 meters on the east side and 0.7 meters on the west side can pass the bridge.
A traffic light system signals to the skippers whether they are allowed to pass the bridge in one-way or two-way traffic.
