The ET 201–204 and ET 210–212 were electric multiple units of the former Cologne-Bonn Railways (KBE). They drove with 1200 volts direct current and got their nickname Silver Arrow because of the silver - traffic red paint . They became famous in the professional world for their revolutionary aluminum construction, which made them particularly light. They were used as an express train or express train on the Rheinuferbahn between Cologne , Wesseling and Bonn .

Since the KBE suffered a loss of profit at the end of the 1950s due to increased competition from the car, it commissioned Westwaggon to build a high-quality express railcar in order to increase travel comfort. The prototype was delivered and tested as ET 201 in 1960. It was exhibited from September 10th to 25th, 1960 at the state traffic exhibition in Essen . In 1964 the ET 202 to 204 (single multiple units) and ET 210–212 ( double multiple units ) were delivered by Waggon- und Maschinenbau GmbH Donauwörth .

The ET 204 was shown at the international transport exhibition in Munich in 1965 and at the rail and road transport exhibition in Essen in 1970 . In the event of damaging fires, the ET 211 and 212 burned out first on August 4, 1975 in Wesseling and then the ET 210 on October 23, 1976 in Bonn's Rheinuferbahnhof . On July 26, 1978, the ET 203 and ET 204 drove their last scheduled service at KBE. In the same year, the ET 202 to 204 were sold to the Salzburger Verkehrsbetriebe , where they were renamed ET 22 to ET 24 and used from 1979 on the Salzburg – Lamprechtshausen local railway . The ET 202 was also destroyed by fire on July 13, 1981. The ET 203 and 204 were scrapped in the 1990s. The last copy, the prototype ET 201, was in special train service from 1978 to September 2, 1990. Today it is owned by the Köln-Bonner Eisenbahn-Freunde (KBEF), has been visually refurbished and is now under the KVB's control in the Wesseling depot .
