history

The Catholic German Student Association (KDStV) Salana Jenensis was founded as one of the first student associations in the GDR on November 25, 1983 in the basement of the Frommann House in Jena . With the choice of the name Salana , the connection is based on the old name of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.

The starting point was the Catholic Student Community (KSG) Jena. The Catholic student congregations offered non-state students a certain amount of freedom. This free space was also used by some students to maintain the traditional student song, later interest in other student traditions awoke. Particularly interesting for students in the GDR was the traditional convention principle of connections, which on the one hand meant democratic decision-making, but on the other hand also meant autonomy that did not allow any interference by official bodies. Precisely this aspect was also the point of conflict with the rulers in the GDR, which they wanted to resolve through integration into official cultural work. However, this did not succeed at Salana Jenensis.

Salana Jenensis held on 20 June 1987, the first "Alliance Kommersbuch" on the Rudelsburg , so the first officially registered traditional student event in the history of East Germany, and was a founding member of the pack Burger Alliance , a loose alliance of student associations that before the ninth November 1989 had a tradition in the German Democratic Republic.

The connection is called today "KDStV". Salana has been open to students of other denominations since its inception . At this point (catholic principle) an integration into the CV failed both in 1990 and in 2003/2004 . The Salana does not belong to any umbrella organization, but as a color-bearing Catholic association it is close to both the CV and the RKDB .

constant

The KDStV Salana Jenensis has had its own vineyard on the southern slope of the Jena local mountain since 1996 . This is where you meet for the regulars' table in the warm season. The constant in the winter months is in the “Schöne Aussicht” inn in the beer village of Wöllnitz .

Since the winter semester 2016/17, the connection has one floor on Jena market square.
