The steam locomotive "PATRIA" was a passenger locomotive of the KFNB . It was the first locomotive built in Austria.

It was built in 1840 by the KFNB workshop and corresponded to the typical English machines with axle formula  1A1 (see " AUSTRIA " and " VINDOBONA "). The cylinders were arranged under the smoke chamber and drove the cranked second axle.

During its test drive on October 18, 1840, it reached 43 km / h between Vienna and Gänserndorf with 8 attached wagons, which were occupied by 200 people .

The "PATRIA" was retired in 1862. There are neither photos nor drawings of this historical machine. However, it is assumed that the imperial toy locomotive of the future Emperor Franz Joseph from around 1840 in the collection of the Wiener Wagenburg is a model of the Patria.
