The type series KHD T12M 625 R is a four-axle diesel locomotive with rod drive for heavy shunting and medium-sized freight train service. It was built in two copies in 1957 and 1958 by KHD and used in larger industrial companies. The locomotive is the largest machine in the KHD TM series. One locomotive has been preserved.

development

The locomotives are the largest rod locomotives from KHD and had a twelve-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine. At that time, its output was correspondingly high with almost 675 hp. The locomotives have been provided according to the designation scheme in which the engine series is included in the locomotive designation.

Only two locomotives were built, which were delivered to the Klöckner works in Haspe and the Neunkircher iron works .

technology

The front end locomotives have a large front end for the diesel engine as well as part of the gearbox, a small front end for the auxiliary operations and an intermediate driver's cab. In 1989 there were horizontally arranged headlights, previously they had the typical large Deutz headlights. Like other Deutz locomotives, they had retracted side steps in the driver's cab, large mufflers and rounded driver's cabs with small sun protection.

The locomotives were originally equipped with the twelve-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine T12M 625 R , whose output was specified as 675 hp.

In 1983 the locomotive used at Weserport was fitted with a Caterpillar engine , and since then its output has been 650 hp. The engine transmits its power to a fluid transmission from Voith from. After the following reversing gear, the jackshaft , which lies between the 2nd and 3rd axis, is driven. The locomotive is a rigid frame locomotive, the necessary curve maneuverability is achieved by the installation of Beugniot levers , which significantly improved the smoothness and protection of the track.

When it was rebuilt in 1983, the locomotive received a radio remote control .

commitment

The locomotive supplied to the Neunkircher Eisenwerke remained in Neunkirchen until the mid-1980s and was then sold to Italy . In 2010 the locomotive was shown in Alessandria in a condition that was worth refurbishing .

Klöckner works

This locomotive was delivered in 1957 and was in service until 1971. Then it was sold to the then Weserport Umschlaggesellschaft in Bremerhaven , where it handled ore under the name 59 . For this mission, she received a new motor and radio remote control.

After the ore handling was over, the locomotive was sold in 1993 to the Hümmlinger Kreisbahn , which at the time was looking for a powerful shunting locomotive with radio remote control. The locomotive was rented to the Verden-Walsroder Railway several times after 1998 and bought by the company in 2008. The locomotive was still there in 2018.
