Paul King , mid 1980s

King was a British pop - and New Wave - band of the 1980s, from Coventry .

history

The head and lead singer of the band, founded in 1983, was Paul King , previously lead singer with The Reluctant Stereotypes, a ska band with whom he released three singles and one album in the early 1980s. Other founding members were guitarist Jim "Jackal" Lantsbery, keyboardist Mick Roberts and bassist Tony Wall. A little later, drummer Adrian Lillywhite joined the group.

King released a total of two albums on CBS , both of which were released in 1985. Steps in Time went gold in the UK and Bitter Sweet was awarded a Silver Record . The group achieved the highest chart placement in Germany with the single Love & Pride , which was released in 1984, but only became a success in the new edition in 1985 and received a gold record after King went on tour with Boy George and his band Culture Club thereby achieved great fame.

With four other singles, King was able to place himself in the UK charts until 1986. Then the group separated. In 1987 Paul King tried to start a solo career. However, his two singles I Know and Follow My Heart flopped. In 1990, Paul King became VJ for the music broadcaster MTV , later with the MTV subsidiary VH1 .
