Kaave

Kaave (German Kawa or Kaawe ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the Estonian rural community Pajusi in Jõgeva County .
Description and history
Kaave has 41 inhabitants (as of 2000). The Kaave River ( Kaave jõgi ) flows near the village .
Kaave was first mentioned in 1584. The place was best known for its sugar factory founded in 1782 . It was said to be the first of its kind in the entire Baltic region .
Good Kaave
The manor Kaave was separated from Gut Rutikvere (German Ruttigfer ) in 1741 . The owner was the noble Pistohlkors family until 1821. It was owned by the noble Samson von Himmelstjerna family until it was expropriated as part of the Estonian land reform of 1919 .
The simple buildings of the estate were erected in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in the style of early classicism . The single story stone mansion was simply designed. An avenue led directly to the central axis. Only a few remains of the buildings remain today.
Personalities
Kaave is the birthplace of the Baltic German painter and lithographer Woldemar Friedrich Krüger (1807 / 1808-1893 / 1894). The publicist Ernst Bark (1858–1924) also came from Kaave . From 1882 in Geneva he published the Russian émigré magazine “Der Baltic Föderalist”, which was dedicated to revolutionary ideas.
