The cable plus GmbH, a 100% affiliate of EVN AG , headquartered in Maria Enzersdorf is a telecommunications provider for Internet, television, fixed and mobile services. As a cable network operator , the company reaches households and companies in Lower Austria and Burgenland via its cable ( coax ) and fiber optic network . In addition, there is a largely nationwide coverage of the two federal states with radio infrastructure.

history

Kabel plus GmbH was founded as kabelsignal Rundfunk-Vermittlungsanlagen GmbH in 1978 by Siemens AG as the owner. With headquarters in Maria Enzersdorf , the company followed the broadcast of domestic and foreign analog radio programs. The company has been using fiber optics as the main supply lines for the network since 1992. In 1997, the classic cable television offer was expanded to include Internet connections via the cable and fiber optic network, with the result that the company established itself as one of the first broadband providers.

In 1998, the telecommunications provider was taken over 100% by EVN AG under the company name kabelsignal AG. Since 2005 the company has also been offering wireless internet, especially for rural regions. The product range was expanded in 2006 to include landline telephony over the cable network. The cable network operator is thus active as a triple player in the telecommunications market: this means that television, Internet and telephony can be offered from a single source.

In 2009 kabelsignal bought B.net Burgenland Telekom GmbH, at that time a subsidiary of BEWAG , the Burgenland counterpart. Furthermore, in 2010 nökom (previously an affiliate of EVN and the Province of Lower Austria) was merged with kabelsignal after taking over the shares of the Province of Lower Austria. In March 2012, B.net and kabelsignal merged to form kabel plus . In December 2012 the company changed its legal form from AG to GmbH.

Since March 2019, kabel plus has also been offering cellular services as a so-called MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator). For this purpose, the company rented Hutchison Drei Austria's existing mobile network . For private customers, the focus is on quad-play (TV, Internet, landline and mobile telephony) and for business customers, the merging of landline and mobile telephony.

Today, kabelplus GmbH, with 253 municipalities served, is by its own account the largest cable network operator and multimedia service provider in Lower Austria and Burgenland and thus also one of the largest Austrian cable network operators.
