González IV cabinet
The González IV cabinet was a government in Spain that was formed on July 14, 1993 by Prime Minister Felipe González of the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE) and replaced the González III cabinet .
In the previous elections to the Congreso de los Diputados on June 6, 1993, the PSOE of González emerged victorious with 38.8 percent of the vote, but missed an absolute majority with 159 of the 350 MPs. The conservative Partido Popular (PP) around José María Aznar was the second strongest force with 34.8 percent and 141 MPs, while Julio Anguita's third-placed Izquierda Unida (IU) had 9.6 percent and 18 seats. The Convergence and Union (CiU) by Miquel Roca was fourth largest with 4.9 per cent and 17 mandates in parliament.
After the election victory, the Congreso de los Diputados confirmed Prime Minister González, who was sworn in on July 14, 1993 by King Juan Carlos I. Suárez in front of the Palacio de la Zarzuela . At the same time, the Boletín Oficial del Estado published the list of cabinet members. On November 13, 1993, May 5, 1994, July 3, 1995 and December 18, 1995 the cabinet was reorganized. In the elections of March 3, 1996, the PSOE lost its majority to José María Aznar's PP. The González III cabinet remained in office until May 6, 1996, after which Aznar formed the Aznar I cabinet .
