The Sánchez I cabinet formed the Spanish government from June 7, 2018 to January 13, 2020. On January 13, 2020, the cabinet was replaced by the Sanchez II cabinet .
Government formation
With the constructive vote of no confidence in the Congreso de los Diputados on June 1, 2018 , the reign of the Rajoy II cabinet ended ; In the vote, alongside the Socialists (PSOE), who only had 84 seats (out of 350) in parliament, Unidos Podemos, PNV and various separatist parties voted against Rajoy. The official appointment of Pedro Sánchez as Prime Minister of Spain and the mandate to form a new government took place on June 2, 2018 by King Felipe VI. On June 6, Sánchez published a cabinet list with all ministers-designate, whereupon Felipe VI. sworn in the cabinet a day later.
On June 13, 2018, just six days after the cabinet was appointed, Minister of Culture and Sport Màxim Huerta resigned after being convicted of tax fraud last year. On September 11, 2018, Health Minister Carmen Montón Giménez resigned after allegations of plagiarism in relation to her master’s degree. She was replaced by Maria Luisa Carcedo Roces .
Government crisis
On February 13, 2019, the separatist Catalan regional parties PDeAT and ERC , on whose support Sánchez 's minority government in parliament depends, voted with the Spanish People's Party PP and the liberal CS against the cabinet budget after four days earlier political discussions with the Catalan regional government had been canceled unsuccessfully to pacify the Catalonia crisis . On February 15, Sánchez then announced early elections for April 28, 2019 .
Since no clear majorities were obtained after the elections in April 2019 and the parties could not agree on a coalition or the tolerance of a minority government, elections were again called for November 10, 2019 ; Until the formation of a new government under the PSOE of Sánchez in coalition with Podemos at the beginning of January 2020, the previous Sánchez government remained in office.
