The Kadyrowzy (in Russian Кадыровцы ; in German Kadyrov's followers) is a paramilitary security force led by the Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov . This unit is accused of violating human rights such as murder and torture , which is why it is feared in Chechnya . The kadyrovtsy not subject to the Russian Interior Ministry and therefore feels bound by any legal norms.

history

The term Kadyrovtsy was used during the Chechen war in 1999 , when Ramzan's father Akhmat Kadyrov openly sided with Russia . His bodyguards, who saw themselves as Achmat's supporters, then fought on the side of the troops of the Russian Federation. The pro-Russian paramilitaries then fought against the separatists. After Akhmat Kadyrov was assassinated in 2004, Ramzan Kadyrov became President of Chechnya in 2007. Meanwhile more and more human rights violations in Chechnya and by the Kadyrovtsys became known.

Chechen fighters appeared in eastern Ukraine during the war in Ukraine , believed to be Kadyrovtsy . Kadyrov disagreed with these reports, saying that they were volunteers. The fighters claim that they went to war voluntarily. On the other hand, observers suspect that they are supposed to act as a counterweight to Chechen volunteers who are fighting on the side of Ukraine .

Tensions in Svalbard occasionally caused Russian violations of the current agreements - in April 2016, Chechen special forces, who were under the direct command of Ramzan Akhmatovich Kadyrov , used Longyearbyen airport after a training exercise near the Russian research camp Barneo at the North Pole. Kadyrov personally greeted the returnees from his Spetsnaz at Grozny Airport .
