Kaiai (spelling variants: Kayai or Kai Hai ; name variant: rarely Ngunta ) is a town in the West African state of Gambia .

According to a calculation for 2013, around 812 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census from 1993 was 604.

geography

Kaiai is in the administrative unit Central River Division , District Niani , about two and a half kilometers north of the banks of the Gambia River , in the amount of Kai Hai Islands .

history

The British African explorer Mungo Park came on his return from his first trip through Kaiai, which he called Kayee , and started his return trip to Europe here in 1797.
