history

Kaiser Wilhelm I was honored in numerous monuments, including in Teupitz. In 1904, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the warrior association, the association of former comrades-in-arms of Teupitz and the surrounding area , the work of art by the German sculptor Arnold Künne was installed. It consisted of an imperial crown, an iron cross , a bronze relief of the emperor and a Prussian eagle weighing around 150 kg . A plaque commemorated the fallen in the Franco-German War . In 1922, the monument was enclosed by a wall made of field stones . Another plaque with the title “In memory of our heroes who fell in the World War 1914–1918” now commemorates the 41 victims from the First World War . After the end of the Second World War , the relief and the eagle disappeared in 1945; nothing is known about its whereabouts. The number of fallen in World War II was unclear in 2006 - a corresponding board is missing. On September 1, 1966 - on World Day of Peace in the GDR - the memorial was redesigned and henceforth referred to as the Peace Memorial . The Iron Cross was covered by a new plaque showing a dove of peace . In addition, craftsmen put up a granite plaque with the inscription: “The dead of two world wars, the victims of fascism remind us that a war will never again start from German soil”. After the fall of the Wall , the dove of peace was removed again while the granite tablet remained. The imperial crown and the plaque for those killed in the Franco-German War were reassembled.
