Kaknästurm

The Kaknästurm ( Swedish : Kaknästornet ) is a combined observation and directional radio tower in Stockholm and, with a height of 170 meters, was the tallest structure in Sweden accessible to tourists . The Kaknästurm has been closed to the public since September 25, 2018. The operator Teracom cites deficiencies in fire protection as the reason, especially in the sprinkler system and smoke extraction.

The Kaknäst Tower is located in the Djurgården district . It was planned and built from 1964 to 1967. The architects were the partners Borgström & Lindroos.

Like most modern television towers, it is a reinforced concrete structure that, unlike most other television towers, has a square cross-section . The platforms for the antennas and the restaurant also have a square floor plan, these are turned at an angle of 45 degrees against the tower shaft, which causes corresponding shadows.

In the upper part there was a restaurant and the viewing platform on the 30th floor. The reinforced concrete tower without the antenna mast is 155 meters high. All radio, television and satellite communications for Swedish radio and television programs are monitored and controlled from the Kaknäst tower.
