Kalüün [ kɑlyːn ] is a German folk band that was founded in 2012 and is based on the island of Föhr . Your texts are written in Fering , the Föhr dialect of the North Frisian language .
history
Kalüün (Fering for “Energy, Mumm”) emerged in 2012 from the Irish folk band Ballynacally. The band includes Dennis Werner ( guitar , vocals), his brother Dirk Werner, who plays the cajón , bodhrán and djembe , Keike Faltings (vocals, violin ) and her brother Jan Faltings ( mandolin bouzouki and vocals) Guests are Michael Lempelius (formerly with Liederjan ) and Ole Carstensen from time to time.
Her only album so far Spöören ("Traces"), which was released in 2014, received the German Record Critics' Prize . With Fering Hüs , Kalüün came third on the list of best songs . This was the first time that a song sung in the North Frisian language was recorded there. In 2015 the band appeared as one of the " headliners " at the Folkbaltica Festival . Keike Faltings presented the Folkbaltica Festival 2016 as a resident artist.
In addition to songs sung on Fering, the band plays traditional, newly arranged dances. The Föhr-based linguist Volkert F. Faltings, father of Keike and Jan Faltings, researched these dances of Frisian- Jutian spillemands music and published them in 2015 together with Jan Faltings and Dennis Werner under the title Lieder und Tänze von Föhr and Amrum . In 2016, Kalüün organized a joint workshop with the Ferring Foundation, Tønder Kulturskole and musicians friends from the Danish island of Fanø under the motto “Folk from the West Coast”. A song book of the same name with traditional and contemporary songs and dances by Föhr and Fanø was published parallel to the workshop.
