The Kalibo Wetlands ( English Kalibo wetlands ) located on the north coast of the island of Panay in the Philippines . It extends over an area of ​​approximately 250 km² not far from the parish of Kalibo , New Washington and Altavas .

The Kalibo wetland is formed by the Aklan River, which forms an extensive delta at its mouth , from Batan Bay to Banga Bay. In the interior of the delta, an extensive river marshland is formed, which has a large number of smaller streams , ponds and shallow lagoons near the coast . In the coastal area there are extensive mangrove forests with large tidal flats in front of them. Sandy beaches and rocky coasts can also be found in the mouth of the Aklan River. The salinity of the bays and lagoons ranges from 16 to 31 ppt. Agricultural areas in the water catchment area of ​​the Aklan River cover 102.60 km², which also includes parts of the river delta. The species richness in the Kalibo wetlands is very high, 39 species of crustaceans were found, which were assigned to 22 genera.

The climate in the region of the Kalibo wetland is tropical, warm and humid with pronounced rainy and dry seasons. The dry season lasts from January to April, the rest of the year there is sometimes heavy rainfall. The average annual rainfall is around 3,800 mm / m² and the average annual temperature is around 27 ° C.
