Potassium tartrate is the name for the potassium salts of tartaric acid . It is also approved in the EU as a food additive with the number E 336 for organic products and can be produced using genetic engineering . It is used as a salt substitute , acidifier , acid regulator and raising agent . It has a laxative effect.
