Kalle Stropp, Grodan Boll och deras vänner (German: Kalle Stropp, Gustav Boll and their friends ) is a Swedish children's film by Hasse Funck from 1956.

action

The baker boys start their craft early in the morning. They collect eggs in the chicken coop and wake the baker, whom they drop straight into the bakery. Then they bake bread and rolls. Later the bakery is abandoned and the grasshopper Kalle Stropp, the frog Gustav Boll, the tin man robot Blech-Niklas, the parrot and the fox appear to bake an anniversary cake for a parade in the bakery. Blech-Niklas is shrinking the bakery so that they can get to work. Meanwhile, the two chimney sweeps Sot and Tos appear in the bakery, discover Blech-Niklas' propeller and steal it when the friends are marveling at the splendid finished cake. Blech-Niklas is sad when he notices the loss, especially since he cannot whip cream for the cake. Sot and Tos reveal themselves to their friends as propeller thieves and flee, blowing out the light of the bakery.

Sot and Tos appear on Kalles meadow. They stole an egg from the chicken and they're breaking it. Inside, they hide the propeller before fleeing from the angry chicken. Kalle follows the thieves' trail with a magnifying glass and finds the egg. The chicken happily takes it, but does not know that the propeller is hidden inside the egg. Like the fox who is supposed to guard the anniversary cake before, it falls asleep side by side with the parrot, while Kalle, Gustav and Blech-Niklas build a safety net for the thieves in Kalle's building. They return shortly afterwards, steal the egg and cake and flee across the lake. The safety net turns out to be unusable because Gustav gets tangled up in it when Kalle tries to catch the thieves with it.

Gustav finds an old boot in the water, which his friends convert into a submarine. They chase Sot and Tos, asking a fish for directions. Sot and Tos flee from them unnoticed. The friends discover a mountain of hay on land in which a passage leads to a cave. This turns out to be the apartment of two voles , who take them to the apartment of an old married couple who finally take a trip in their old car, which their friends join as stowaways. The journey ends abruptly due to a lack of petrol. Kalle, Gustav and the others hear a propeller noise not far away. It comes from the roof of a tower and the friends climb the tower on which Sot and Tos have built the propeller. A chase ensues, in which the parrot and chicken also take part. In the end, Sot and Tos' friends are overwhelmed and tied up on the tower. The voles have meanwhile alerted the parade, which rushes to the aid of the prisoners. She threatens to bombard Sot and Tos with the pea cannon, and both give up. You free the friends and are captured by them and handed over to the parade. Blech-Niklas gets his propeller back and is happy. The fox in turn finds the missing anniversary cake, which is now given to the captain of the parade. Sot and Tos are also forgiven by the friends in the end. After a bath and hung with streamers, they look much friendlier and are also allowed to take part in the celebration for the parade.

production

Kalle Stropp, Grodan Boll och deras vänner was the first film adaptation of the stories about the grasshopper Kalle Stropp and the frog Gustav Boll, which Thomas Funck wrote for the radio in the 1940s and later recorded. Funck wrote the script for the film, which is based on the radio program Kalle Stropp och hans vänner , and took on the synchronization of all characters in the original (except for the child actors). He also wrote the film music. Directed by his brother, the singer and actor Hasse Funck; it remained his only directorial work.

Kalle Stropp, Grodan Boll och deras vänner begins with a sequence in which Thomas Funck finishes the film's credits , which are finally held on paper in the camera. The film is presented as "Film med sång och musik" (film with song and music) and contains several vocal parts. Kalle Stropp, Grodan Boll och deras vänner was implemented as a real film, with some scenes with puppets being filmed in stop-motion . The animation sequences are from Lasse Molén .
