Kalliosaari ( Swedish Bergholmen , German rock island ) is an uninhabited island in the Baltic Sea off the Finnish capital Helsinki . It is a popular local recreation area.

geography

The island is located in the Gulf of Finland , about 400 m southeast of the Vuosaarenselkä peninsula in the east of the Finnish capital. The small island of Voirasia lies between Vuosaarenselkä and Kalliosaari . Kalliosaari measures about 150 m in east-west extension and 450 m in north-south direction and has an area of ​​4.2 ha and is relatively high in relation to its size at 19 meters. At the southern end a peninsula is formed on the island itself , in the west a natural bay. Like all archipelago on the Finnish south coast, Kalliosaari consists of rock, the coast was formed during the last ice age.

The island belongs to the Kallahti sub-area of the Helsinki municipality of Vuosaari .

use

On the island there is a toilet, several tables with benches as well as fire pits and a public waste disposal facility. In the bay in the west there is a sandy beach, around the island there are many bathing opportunities from the rocks. The care of the island is incumbent on the Uudenmaan virkistysalueyhdistys ry (German about: United Recreational Areas Uusimaa ). It was bought in 1994 and has the nautical chart number Z 625.

Development

Kalliosaari is not developed, there is no bridge, no pier, ferry connection or the like. The island can only be reached by small boats. The island is covered with lichens, mosses and grass and is forested with smaller pines.
