Kalliosaarenluoto ( Swedish Bergholmenskobben , German  rock island cliff ) is an uninhabited archipelago in the Baltic Sea off the Finnish capital Helsinki .

Geography and geology

The granite island is located in the Gulf of Finland , almost 600 meters southeast of the Vuosaarenselkä peninsula and 300 meters south-southwest of Kalliosaari in the east of the Finnish capital. The small island of Prinsessa lies between Vuosaarenselkä and Kalliosaarenluoto . Kalliosaarenluoto measures about 60 meters in east-west extension and 70 meters in north-south direction and has an area of around 3000 square meters. Like all archipelagos on the Finnish south coast, Kalliosaarenluoto consists of rock; the coast was formed during the last ice age .

Flora and fauna

The island is covered with lichen , moss and grass and overgrown with a smaller pine tree and several shrubs . The island has been protected since 2002 due to the occurrence of common tern , eider , tufted duck , golden bell , turnstone , oystercatcher , redshank and wigeon . At times barnacle geese ( Valkoposkihanhi in Finnish ) can also be found on the island .

Between April 1 and August 15, both entering the island, approaching it less than 25 meters and fishing in the vicinity are prohibited.

administration

The island belongs to the Kallahti sub-area of the Helsinki district of Vuosaari and is owned by Uudenmaan virkistysalueyhdistys ry (German about "United Recreation Areas Uusimaa ").

Another Finnish island with this name is located in the Padasjoki municipality in the Päijät-Häme region in southern Finland near Lahti .
