Kalvi Aluve

Kalvi Aluve (born May 7, 1929 in Rakvere , † September 28, 2009 in Tallinn ) was an Estonian architect , restorer and art historian .

Life and architecture

Kalvi Aluve graduated from Tallinn Polytechnic Institute (TPI) in 1954 . From 1957 to 1995 Aluve was employed by the Estonian state architecture institute Eesti Mälestisehitused , of which from 1968 to 1978 as chief architect.

Aluve's specialty was the restoration of medieval houses and buildings. Outstanding works Aluves were the restoration of the Episcopal Church in the castle of Haapsalu (1983-1992), the restoration of the convent building and the bastions of the Castle of Kuressaare on the island of Saaremaa (since 1971), the restoration of the weir gate of the fortress of Porkuni (1977- 1983) and the restoration of the historic auditorium of the University of Tartu (1966/67). In addition, he made a name for himself as a curator of historic Estonian inns such as in Koeru , Audru and in the open-air museum of Rocca al Mare .

In 1980 Kalvi Aluve was awarded the State Prize of the Estonian SSR .
