Kamal ( Hindi for " lotus ") is the artist pseudonym of the German new age , ambient and world musician Kamal Martin Engels (born April 18, 1956 in Bielefeld ).

Kamal studied at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf. In addition to the synthesizer , he uses many Asian and Indian sounds and instruments in his music, such as B. Tibetan singing bowls , the guitar and various flutes . On his last two CDs he included whale songs . Kamal now lives in Byron Bay (Australia), where he also works as an Avatar trainer. For his music he received a. a. the "Australian Dolphin Award". A GRAMMY nomination in the category 'Best Traditional World Music' won his production 'Pure Sounds' with the ' Gyuto Monks of Tibet' in 2011 .

Kamal is the operator and owner of the studio "ArtOfAudio - mastering" in Mullumbimby in Australia ( New South Wales ), where he not only produces his own music, but also many musicians from various fields.

Other names

Kamal's maiden name is Martin Oberschelp. After emigrating to Australia in 1993, he took the surname of his wife Laura and published under the name "Kamal - Martin Ancedy". Since 1997 he has had the surname of his second wife Iris, "Kamal M. Engels".

Discography

Kamal released his first nine albums on Nightingale Records / Meistersinger Musik , where the first recordings of Karunesh and Anugama also appeared. Kamal left this label when it went bankrupt. From 2000 Kamal released most of his CDs on New Earth Records.
