Kamala is a Finnish thrash metal band from Jyväskylä that was founded in 2005.

history

The band was founded in 2005 by friends Karita Kivioja and Päivi Keski-Säntti. Kivioja played the electric guitar and did the vocals, while Keski-Santti initially played bass, but soon switched to drums, as they found it easier to find a bassist than a drummer. Both had previously been active in cover bands. After a few musicians had auditioned, Emilia Peurakoski, friend and fan of the two, was brought in. Peurakoski was completely inexperienced on bass. After playing together for six months, they were ready for their premiere on April 26, 2006. In June the first demo called Peto was recorded by Samuli Turunen, a friend of the band, in the band's rehearsal room in Lutakko , Jyväskylä. After further demos, the debut album Kamala akka was released in 2013 via Inverse Records , which was recorded, mixed and mastered by Sami Niittykoski .

style

According to RB from obliveon.de , straight and aggressive music can be heard on Kamala Akka , which relies on " thrashy elements, harsh riffing and angry vocals". Anders Ekdahl from battlehelm.com also reviewed the album and felt reminded of Alice in Chains minus the grunge sound and at a higher speed, with parallels to harder sounds like Pantera . He felt that the band a " testosterone - Metal plays." For Maciek from metalbite.com , the album offered heavy Thrash Metal with down-tuned electric guitars and melodic vocals. You use a lot of effects on the guitar and the bass sounds distorted, overall the album sounds raw. Occasionally screams are used in singing .
