Vuolla is a Finnish death doom band from Jyväskylä that was founded in 2009.
history
The band was formed in January 2009. Later that year, the demo A Part of Us Will Never Leave This Place was recorded, with 100 copies distributed. In 2010 the group wrote new material. After a few line-up changes, the band went to the studio in autumn, where the EP At the Edge of the Mist was recorded. For publication, a concert was held on January 28, 2011 in a night club in the center of Jyväskyläs. During the songwriting process during the year, the line-up changed again. In 2012 the group continued to write new material and test a few songs live. After a period of rest in summer, the band went to the studio in September. In 2012, the single Rivers in Me was released as a self-published . After the band signed a record deal with Schwarzdorn Production in 2015 , the debut album Blood was released in June 2016 . Stone. Sun. Down.
style
Sven Lattemann from Metal.de wrote in his review of Blood. Stone. Sun. Down. that the band was influenced by groups like Katatonia , Shape of Despair and early Anathema . In good moments the album offers melancholic Doom Metal with atmospheric keyboard sounds and borrowings from post-rock ; in not so good it is more ordinary Death Doom with "forced dreaminess" and predictable structures. Björn Backes from Powermetal.de also reviewed the album and noted that the band fluctuated "between the very old LACUNA COIL epics, SWALLOW THE SUN melancholy and many a tone that PARADISE LOST also liked to release two and a half decades ago", however, the group plays much slower. Overall, he assigned the album to the Epic Doom . For Ricardo Campos from voicesfromthedarkside.de the band plays heavy, atmospheric and depressive metal on the album , which is slow, very melodic and partly minimalistic. The vocals fluctuate between guttural , typical for Death Doom, and female clear vocals. However, only occasionally does the group move into melodic Death Doom areas. Sometimes the group also work in influences from rock music of the 1970s. Overall, he was reminded of Tiamat , Amorphis, and Anathema.
