History and important developments

Kamei introduced some groundbreaking products as early as the 1950s. In the beginning, Kamei's range focused on products to upgrade the interior of the Volkswagen Beetle.

In 1952 Kamei presented the first safety headrests for cars. These represented a further development of the previously offered "slumber rolls" and are now part of the safety equipment of every automobile.

In 1953, Karl Meier showed the first spoiler for road vehicles around the Geneva Motor Show . It was an add-on part for the VW Beetle , which was attached instead of the front bumper and increased the contact pressure of the front axle of the rear-heavy Beetle at speeds over 100 km / h. Kamei's name for this component was “depth control”.

In 1964 the licensed AVUS steering wheel cover from Porotherm was launched, which has been sold over 100 million times worldwide and is still by far the most successful steering wheel cover in the world today.

In the 1970s, Kamei started series production of a retrofittable front spoiler for the VW Beetle. The basis for this was the depth tax, first presented in Geneva in 1953.

The introduction of the Kamei roof box program began in 1988 with the Traveler Box, which today is one of the company's flagship products.
